The building was designed by the Persian architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. Some 20,000 workers toiled on it daily for 22 years. The unique style of the Taj Mahal combines elements of Persian, Central Asian, and Islamic architecture. There are five main compartments that make up the palace, including the Darwaza or main gateway, the Bageecha or garden, the Masjid or mosque, the Naqqar Khana or rest house, and the Rauza or the Taj Mahal mausoleum.

Visit Qutub Minar while in Delhi

Redfort of DelhiThe Qutub Minar is tallest brick minaret in the world. It was completed in the 13th century. It stands out as being the highest stone tower ever to have been built in India, stretching up an impressive 72.5 meters (237.8 ft) into the sky. It has 399 steps that lead up to the top.

Qutb-u'd-Din Aibak originally conceived Qutub Minar in the year 1199. Its purpose was to provide the Mu'azzin a majestic place to give calls to prayer in the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque. Not to be outdone, his son-in-law, Shamsu'd-Din Iitutmish added three more stories to it. It was not until 1368 that the fifth and last story was added.

Qutub Minar is made of fluted red sandstone. It is covered with intricate carvings and verses from the Qur'an. The tower is located on the ruins of the Red Citadel.
